Sunderland skipper set for medical ahead of £400,000 switch to Hull City

Hull City have agreed a £400,000 fee for Sunderland captain George Honeyman.

The midfielder is set for a medical today ahead of a move to the KCOM Stadium, according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie on Twitter.

Honeyman, who is 24 years-old, is being allowed to leave Sunderland for a fee now with him only having a year left on his deal at the Stadium of Light.

Hull have so far managed to sign Matt Ingram from QPR, Ryan Tafazolli on a free transfer, Sean McLoughlin from Cork City, Tom Eaves from Gillingham and Josh Bowler on loan from Everton this summer.

Their boss Grant McCann is now set to bolster his midfield ranks by landing Honeyman before their season kicks off away to Swansea City on Saturday.

Honeyman made 44 appearances for the Black Cats in all competitions last season and chipped in with eight goals to help them get into the League One Play-Offs under Jack Ross.

The Prudhoe-born man joined their academy at the age of 10 and rose up through the youth ranks with the North-East side. He spent time on loan as a youngster in the National League with Gateshead to gain some first team experience.

Honeyman made his Sunderland debut in February 2015 in an  FA Cup tie against Bradford City and has since played 97 times for them. However, he is now set for a move away to Hull.
