Colchester Closing in On Chambers
Monday, 7th Jun 2021 06:00

Exiting Blues skipper Luke Chambers is close to completing a switch to Colchester United.

The 35-year-old has been tipped for a move to the League Two side for a number of weeks with his close friend Cole Skuse having already joined the North Essex club on a two-year deal.

Now, the Colchester Gazette reports that the U’s are hopeful of completing the capture of the centre-half this week, also on what’s believed to be a two-year contract.

Chambers’s Town departure was confirmed at the end of the season after nine years at the club, most of those as the Blues’ captain.

League One Gillingham were also keen on the former Northampton Town and Nottingham Forest man.

Good move for him - stays local, links with Skusey, will keep Colchester competitive.

Best of luck to Chambo.

A good and obvious move for both Chambers and Skuse, whether it is a good move for Colchester remains to be seen. It all depends on their fitness levels and heart to play for another club.
Hope it goes well for all parties.

He must have half an eye on the Col U managers job.

Best of luck to him wherever he ends up.

Was an excellent player for us in a game with precious little loyalty and at a club that stopped investing pretty much the day he arrived.

He will be one of their best players. Good luck and thank you for being a role model for those at ITFC. The pre season friendly will be interesting ?

Good for Luke and his family situation . Perhaps back in the future in management role? Certainly still has great affection for ITFC !

Brilliant move for all concerned. He will bring a great deal of stability at the back as well as adding goal scoring chances from set pieces. Good luck Luke

Hey Wooly, are they sad individuals cause they don't agree with what you think?.
Give it a couple of years and you will reflect on the Darling Chambers era at the club and realise exactly how pish poor he and we had become.

Good luck Chambo, but is this really the leading story? Happy for him if he gets a move that suits but on the day season tickets hit general sale would have thought more about our future would be up top

I'd say League Two would possibly be one league too high for him these days - I would say he is probably more suited to National League at his age - not sure if he will be a regular for Col U.

However he will bring a wealth of experience to their team and will be a great asset in the dressing room for them - always gives 100%.

Thank you Chambo for your fantastic loyalty and service to our club. All the best at your new club.

Yeah I say good luck to Chambo in his new venture, but I would think if you can Phil can you let us know how season tickets have gone on first day of public sales? I think so far I have persuaded 5 new people to buy and not miss out on an exciting new season, let's all make the effort with friends and family. Let's all aim for 15000 season ticket holders minimum COYB

Good move for chambers as it keeps him local, plus will be a very good League Two player.

Aren't we all over the anti - chambers/Skuse thing by now?

I wasn't his or Skuses number one fan but wish them both best future endeavours.

Let's wish them all the best and look forward to the clubs future.

Some people overlook the fact that both Skuse and Chambers have been model professionals at ITFC in so many ways.
Maybe it's because their critics wouldn't know the meaning of being professional themselves.
Both as players were at the end of their careers in terms of playing and part of moving our Club in the desired direction - but both have their other traits which should mean they have something still to give a lower level Club - as indeed they will.
Some people are bitter and twisted by nature - they never change.
Good Luck both of You.

Best of luck to Chambo, Sears and Skuse. They didn't achieve success at Town but they deserve some respect from us all as they were great servants of the club.
