Gillingham 3-0 Barrow

Gillingham boosted their play-off hopes with a convincing 3-0 win over 10-man Barrow at Priestfield Stadium.

Barrow stay sixth but have now lost three games in a row, with this contest coming to life in the 21st minute.

George Lapslie went off injured and, just seconds after coming on, his replacement Josh Walker was scythed down by George Ray, who promptly followed Lapslie down the tunnel after being shown a red card.

Gillingham hit the front in the third minute of nine added minutes at the end of the first half, target man Josh Andrews springing the offside trap to reach Remeao Hutton's through-ball and rounding Paul Farman to score.

Andrews was making his first start for Gills and continued to impress in the second half, earning a corner just before the hour mark.

Sustained pressure led to Gillingham's second, Conor Masterson's ball from the right forced over his own line by Barrow's Rory Feely.

And Conor Mahoney provided added gloss for Gills, rounding Farman once again to make it 3-0 and wrap up three convincing points for the home side, who are now just two points off the play-offs.

A bit too late for this season but we are 11 points and 6 places better off than last season after 44 games.

Still everything to play for Barrow , points are better than games in hand , but still every chance of the play offs.

A good result for Gills . Barrow were poor and shows the standard of League 2 when Barrow are in the playoff positions. Gills have a slim chance of the playoffs, but the winner of the playoffs will need to invest heavily or they will end up relegated. Gills win out probably not enough with negative goal difference. Barrow were poor because they played (deservedly) with 10 men for most of the game. They are also being chased rather than being the chaser & that brings about totally different pressure on the team. Manager must sort that out. To put it in perspective Gills were very poor at Barrow in March and could have lost more heavily that 2-0 and had 11 men on the field all game

If Barrow get 2 points from 4 games, we can't do it.

We really need Crawley to beat Barrow, Barrow to lose all games, Doncaster to lose all games.

Then we need to the win our last 2 (hmmmm).

Still at least it'll keep every honest until the last game.

The referee should include in his report an exceptional circumstance for an extra ban ,it was one of the worse challenges i've ever seen on a football pitch(that includes Sunday league)

Really poor from Barrow and agree the standard of division 4 football is dreadful and if that is a play-off team then god help us all, Wild leaves out 3 players and goes for a draw, Crawley & Doncaster will both beat Barrow next, it`s been a good season for Barrow but look at the crowds people don`t want to watch league football in the town, Barrow will be lucky to remain in the league next season

The best teams at Priestfield have been Colchester and Newport. Both are miles away from the playoffs. Gills have beaten both Stockport and Wrexham this season and Gills have lacked a goal scorer. It will be interesting to see hiw the the promoted teams do. Wrexham apart who will splash the cash and add to the millions already spent.
